Diving Tourism

WORKSHEET

1. Suggested Use

Tourism, nature and environmental awareness focus, followed by A2+-level vocabulary and grammar activities.

2. Suggested Activities

A. Project-based learning
Students imagine they are part of a team creating a mini travel podcast episode about a day at the Red sea. They write a short script (80–100 words) describing what visitors can do, what makes the Red Sea special and why they recommend it to tourists. Have them use the info from the video to help them. Students can then perform their podcast live in pairs or groups for classmates.

B. Mediation task: Relaying specific information (+ note taking)
Have students imagine they need to convince people to visit the Red Sea coast using the information from the video, in a mini-tourism presentation. They take notes of the main points from the video and summarise the key points into an engaging presentation for potential tourists.

C. Pronunciation task: Long vowels /iː/ and /uː/
Have students identify the difference between the sounds and find examples from the video, e.g. sea, reef, easy, creatures, blue, new, scuba, tourism etc. Model, practise and drill the sounds. Have students read sentences from the video containing the sounds, e.g. The Red Sea has crystal-clear water; Each dive offers something new and exciting.

NARRATOR:
Many people know Egypt's Red Sea resorts, but Saudi Arabia's coast is still a secret. This beautiful place is 150 kilometres north of the city of Jeddah. It is very special. Divers are discovering new and untouched diving spots here. Each dive offers something new and exciting. The Red Sea is also perfect for beginners. Its clear waters make diving easy and fun for everyone.
