Entrepreneurship, social media and lifestyle focus, followed by B1-level vocabulary and grammar activities.
2. Suggested Activities
A. Project-based learning
Students work in pairs or small groups to design a mini social media campaign for a cause or topic they care about. They choose a topic (e.g. healthy food, recycling, local culture, animal care, mental health), decide what kind of posts or short videos they would make, plan what platform to use and explain how their posts could educate or inspire others. Each group presents their campaign idea to the class. 3. Vocabulary
B. Mediation task: Relaying specific information
Write the word FarmTok on the board. Have students imagine one of their classmates is off school today and missed the lesson, but needs to know more about what they missed. Students watch the video again and make notes on the most important information, including what a ‘FarmTok’ is. Put students into pairs to compare their notes and explain the main purpose of the video. Have their partner say if they would understand the video based on what they heard.

TRANSCRIPT
Farm Influencer
NARRATOR:
How can we earn some extra cash? One way is by using our skills and interests to set up a small business online. Zoe Kent is a young farmer in Ohio, in the United States. She works full-time on her family’s farm, and she also makes short videos about farm life. She posts these on social media. Zoe is part of a growing online trend called “FarmTok.” Many young farmers use it to talk about their work and answer questions from the public. She says her goal is to help people understand what modern farming is really like.
SOUNDBITE - Zoe Kent:
“But it's just really trying to show people just clips of what's happening on the farm day to day, sprinkle in a little bit of education so they can take something away and just keep it kind of light and fun.”
NARRATOR:
Social media also allows farmers to share ideas and feel more connected to each other. Some of them, like Zoe, earn money by getting lots of followers. Some also advertise products to local customers.
SOUNDBITE - Zoe Kent:
“First and foremost, my priority with posting online is connecting with other people in the industry and with people who want to learn about agriculture, but I do make money doing it. It motivates me to keep posting. If I wasn't able to monetize, I would still post but it'd probably be one to two times a week versus trying to get something out every day.”
NARRATOR:
Zoe’s experience shows that with creativity, it’s possible to make a profit while doing what you love.
