TRANSCRIPT
Rescue Dog

NARRATOR:
This is Bailey. He is three years old. Bailey is a rescue dog. He works with the Essex Urban Search and Rescue team. He helps find people after big accidents, like earthquakes. Bailey lived on a street in Northern Ireland. When he was a puppy, a charity brought him to England.

This is Graham. He trains dogs. He saw something special in Bailey. Training Bailey was hard, but it was worth it. Now Bailey is doing a test. We are at Beacon Hill Fort. It’s a big place. It has trees and old buildings. Someone is hiding here. Bailey needs to find them. This is just for practice.

UPSOUND:
“Hello! First service search dog, call out if you can hear me…!”

NARRATOR:
Graham watches Bailey.  Bailey smells something in the air. He runs faster.

SOUNDBITE - Graham:
“So, see, the dog's body language has now changed. His head's gone up, he's sped up, so he's picking up scent now over in this area.”

NARRATOR:
In a few minutes, Bailey finds the person. Bailey gets his toy. This is his reward.

UPSOUND:
“Good lad. Good boy.”

NARRATOR:
Bailey can search big places very fast. This helps rescue teams work better. Graham thinks Bailey learned good skills from his life on the street. Now, he is one of the best.
