TRANSCRIPT
24-Hour Walking Tour
NARRATOR:
These people are listening carefully to Jonnie, their tour guide. He knows many interesting and unusual facts about London. He talks about the history of the city's landmarks.
SOUNDBITE - Jonnie Fielding:
”Outside the Blackfriar Pub. This was a Dominican monastery. They wore black and Friar is brother. So you've got Blackfriars Station, Blackfriars Bridge.”
NARRATOR:
Jonnie is leading these walks to raise money for London’s Air Ambulance Charity. This charity uses helicopters to help people with serious injuries in London. He is guiding different groups around the city for 24 hours, just like the helicopters that work all day and night.
SOUNDBITE - Jonnie Fielding:
“The plan is, is to do 24 hours of a continuous route and the idea was because they're a 24-hour service that I do 24 hours of walks, so that's what people have come along to do.”
NARRATOR:
As they walk, Jonnie shows people things they might not notice on their own.
UPSOUND:
“So there we go. That's Ben Wilson, AKA the chewing gum guy.”
NARRATOR:
Money from the tickets sold will help London’s Air Ambulance Charity buy two new helicopters.
SOUNDBITE - Jayne Clarke:
“We have two helicopters at the moment which are great, but they're 25 years and 15 years old, which means they're like an old car. They're really hard to keep flying. So we need to buy two new helicopters and they cost £15 million.”
NARRATOR:
The charity depends on donations, with almost 90% of the money coming from the public.
SOUNDBITE - Jayne Clarke:
“Last year, over 2,000 people needed our help. That's the most important part for people to remember that we're a charity that's providing this absolutely groundbreaking and wonderful service for London.”
NARRATOR:
Without people like Jonnie, this service would struggle to keep going. Jonnie hopes to raise more than £4,000 to help save lives in London.
