Saudi's Handicraft Showcase
WORKSHEET
1. Suggested Use
Art and culture focus, followed by A1-level vocabulary and grammar activities.
2. Suggested Activities
A. Project-based learning
Students write a short blog post or travel article about a craft fair or art show in their country. They use the Riyadh script as a model and describe what people can see, make, and learn.
B. Mediation task: Note-taking + relaying specific information
Students imagine they are taking a class trip to the craft show in Riyadh, but their classmate missed the introduction so doesn’t know what to expect. Have students watch the video and note down the main points, like the things to see and do there. They then work in pairs and tell their partner about the craft fair using their notes.
C. Pronunciation task: /s/ and /ʃ/ (‘s’ and ‘sh’ sounds)
Have students identify the words with ‘s’ and ‘sh’ in the script, e.g. Saudi, shop, crafts, some, Sadu, fashion, she etc. They practise and drill the sounds, and work out the mouth placement for each sound. They think of other words and phrases with these sounds and write example sentences to give to another pair to practise.
